O Tokke Hymns

zionengine Ambient has an advantage over structured songs in expressing feelings. Melodies and lyrics describe the emotions, but these hymns *sound* like the feelings themselves. For me, it occupies sonic territory near David Julyan's score for "The Prestige". Favorite track: Hymn One.

about

P.D. Wilder has been a part of the Texas post rock scene for over a decade with his projects Hotel Hotel & More States as well as his solo work. More recently he’s taken part in the drone ensemble of Parties as well as sporadically making guest appearances with a variety of other droners. It’s always interesting to see how someone generally working in long form music will work in the constraints of the 5in5 series.
Centered around glacial guitars & reverb, O Tokke Hymns was inspired by driving through the mountains of Tennessee on the way to Wilder’s aunt’s funeral. Drone death hymns of sorrow, confusion, & at times triumph.
