about

To some it may seem impossible that there is a link to the melancholy tinged angst of post punk & shoegaze to the beach, but it’s always been there. The Cure’s “Killing an Arab”, New Order’s “The Beach”, Ride’s “Seagull”, Cocteau Twins’ “Sea Swallow Me”, & more recently M is We’s labelmates Aarktica’s “Ocean” & Remora’s “We Come from the Sea.” While for some the beach is about weeklong parties in the spring & summer, for others there’s a feeling of home in the relative serenity & solitude of the coast in winter. & so we present you with M is We’s Oceans.

Started in 2004 as an experimental art rock solo project of Michael Wood, M is We blossomed into a band in Myrtle Beach, SC only to go back to a solo project when Wood moved to Carrboro, NC ten years later & has now been rebuilt into a full band in the post punk vein with some shoegazery & darkwave thrown in the mix. Imagine Sunny Day Real Estate forming a Christian Death tribute band & or Ride covering The Stooges & you’re in the right place. A certain feeling of desperation & loneliness & general malaise, that somehow ends with a rock show & a beer instead of tears.
