Worldly Remains

about

This story might comfort you if you think you have a dirty job - it can (almost) always be worse you know. As I mention here, it's kind of educational, but also kind of graphic, especially near the end. Just right for right before Halloween.

I made the voice recording off my iPhone, courtesy of Voice Memo, and then added some background sounds/music from my iPad, using these apps:
SpectrumGen (an old classic):
www.warmplace.ru/soft/synths/#sg
Trope (developed by Brian Eno and Peter Chivers):
apps.apple.com/us/app/trope/id312164495
Photophore (a visualized synthesizer):
apps.apple.com/us/app/photophore-synth/id937318617

Everything was mixed together with the Audacity software: www.audacityteam.org
It's free and open sourced and has lots of bells and whistles like noise reduction, fade in/out, layering tracks,cut/paste sections, etc. (it also allowed me to record the narration in 12 parts, which I could piece together, rather than doing one breathless take of the whole thing). Perfect software for us non-musicians and audiophobes.

The Day of the Dead ceramic skulls ("calaveras") in the photo come from Mayan Dreams Imports:

Dedicated to Michelle, Big Pun & whomever I met down in the bunker that day. RIP.
