about

It’s hard to believe it’s been more than ten years since Evgeny Zheyda started his Thorn1 project. Based in Barnaul in western Siberia, the isolation from scenes doing the type of music Zheyda loves has forced him to make his own to listen to blending post rock, post punk, slowcore, drone pop, & lo-fi into the sound of Thorn1.

The Leave of Leaves is not a departure, but a next step of the sound of Thorn1’s The Light of Random Star. Poppier, catchier, more accessible while simultaneously more serious as the chopped Russian & English phrases point towards the internal confusion & existential dread of many artists. The desire to help others of like minds, to find someone to call a friend. Wandering through a forest you find a shelter not built for self-preservation, but to help others, maybe it’s only strong enough to let a couple of birds sing or maybe it will serve you through the night or maybe it’s the home of the next generation of disenfranchised youth.
